Verra – Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)

Since 2005 Verra, based in Washington, D.C., has developed and administered a registry that implements multiple standards.

Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)

Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is the world’s largest voluntary GHG, or greenhouse gas, program operating worldwide. The program is a taxonomy of methodologies, rules, and guidance that provide for the substantiation and ongoing management of new and innovative carbon projects.

The scope of the VCS program is broad and goes across 15 different sectors including energy distribution, construction, mining, and agriculture.

The program verifies and ensures the credibility of emission reduction projects by monitoring and accounting for the amount of GHG, or greenhouse gas, mitigated by a project. This creates VCS credits that can be traded to offset other companies’ or individual’s carbon emissions.

What sets Verra apart from other standards

Verra is the largest registry in the world and has been a leader in carbon markets.
